Four artist were represented to house each discipline; Maya Deren - Meshes of the Afternoon, Samuel Beckett - Waiting for Godot, Christo and Pieter Bruegel the Elder. 2 underground theaters connected by a dry canal intersect with a 4 story wall each side of the canal. Final 2 drawings were used by Raimund and I during our discussions.

An architectural program which invited prominent architects to provide design projects to the students twice every semester. In this example Daniel Libeskind, the then director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art's Department of Architecture, asked us to examine the Piranesi "I Carceri d'Invenzione" series of etchings in order to create a new architecture. This is where the intersection of architecture and art, literature and poetry, began.

1982 - 1984 This was the first attempt to use the camera as an ordering device to create new space. Freeway signage, feeder roads and freewway businesses were layered directly to black and white slides without the use of computers. I was inspired by Jerry Uelsmann's work but felt that his photographs were too controlled and so I embraced the Surrealist's Manifesto instead.

1981 - 1985 Spaces layered in the camera to examine the chance occurrence of a place or event. Sliver Gelatin prints.

1990 While staying with friends Arthur and Denise Deatly at Dereck Boshier's home I did a controlled study of the immediate surroundings for 1 week layering 3 areas on film to form new spaces. Trying to emulate the early layers of Picasso's first collages, 1912-1913; "Violin' sur une table" to see everything all at once by deconstructing the ordinary to create new spaces. Sliver Gelatin prints.

1987 - 1990 Without access to a darkroom in Philadelphia I used color slide film to document Christ Church Cathedral's steeple from my roof deck every day for 2 years. I also did a study of the skyline and Front Street using black and white slide film. 35mm slides never printed.

May 26, 2014 Massara's Market on Butler Street, Pittston, PA The Massara's retired shortly after these photos were taken. The Market still exists with the original recipes for incredible home made cured meats and peppers, etc. under the new owner John Morgan, under the new name - Morgan's Butcher Shop.
